Billy Evans, Elizabeth Holmes’ partner, is sharing his thoughts on “You Can See Everything,” including what he believes is the biggest misconception about him and a slew of other topics. On Nov. 3, Evans invited people to participate in an AMA, ask me anything, on X, prefacing it needed “to be legally permisible (sic).” Among the lightest questions include someone asking what the first thing he and Holmes will do after she is released from prison. “Hold our kids tight and talk all night,” Evans, who shares two children with the Theranos founder replied. Holmes was found guilty of four counts of wire fraud for misrepresenting to investors what her company’s technology could do. She was sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2022 and is currently at a minimum-security prison in Bryan, Texas. “You Can See Everything,” the documentary by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, followed her and Evans weeks before she was incarcerated. The film has become a critical and commercial success, with many viewers and experts questioning her and Evans’ intentions. Fielder had previously shared during a Los Angeles screening in October that Evans had yet to watch the film ahead of its Oct. 16 release. When asked on X what he misses most about Holmes, Evans said “everything.” “I miss her presence. Her touch. The way she runs her fingers through my hair. Her patience. She makes me a better person. And without her, I feel an emptiness that’s hard to describe,” he wrote. “People often say they need someone when what they really mean is that they want them. I’ve thought a lot about that distinction. I need Liz. She should qualify as a medically necessary prescription.” When someone followed up by replying, “Her scrambled eggs,” Evans replied, “Def not this,” with a melting face emoji. In the documentary, there’s a moment when Holmes is whisking eggs in a yellow bowl. As she’s speaking to Fielder, Evans grabs the bowl from her hands and starts to vigorously whip them. When the filmmaker questions his move, Evans implies it’s because his partner doesn’t do it right. On X, Evans also shared he had seen “almost all of” Fielder’s work before filming “You Can See Everything.” He also wrote that they celebrated Fielder’s birthday “around the table in Del Mar with my family,” adding, “He also missed the Time 100 dinner, so we celebrated that too.” TODAY.com has reached out to Evans, Fielder and Holmes for additional comment. He also touched on more serious matters, including the “one misconception from the film” that he would like to dispel. “That I somehow control Liz. Anyone who actually knows her would find that idea hilarious. She’s fiercely independent, strong-willed, and my best friend,” he tweeted. “We are partners in every sense. We challenge each other, disagree, and face the world together. Her closest friends are also some of my closest friends. If I ever mistreated her, they’d have my head.” Someone also wondered why, in the documentary, he stopped Fielder from speaking to Holmes’ father. “Both Nathan and the audience saw it as integral to the documentary to truly ‘see everything,’” the person wrote. “It felt like a missed opportunity that could have continued to give Liz more light.” In his response, Evans noted that Holmes was going to prison and had three days together. “I wanted to spend that time together. He interviewed her parents after she went in. They chose not to include that in the film. I didn’t control the edit. If there was something the directors wanted from them they had multiple opportunities to get it.” When questioned about using his power of attorney over Holmes and going directly to X instead of her for her profile password, he wrote that they “discussed this at length over several months. She knew exactly what we were doing.” “We talk about everything, including X. Nothing happened behind her back,” he claimed. “The POA was simply the legal mechanism that allowed me to act on her behalf while she’s incarcerated. It was not a substitute for her consent.” When pressed for more clarity, he replied that Holmes’ account was “tied to an old Theranos email. Password forgotten.” “You Can See Everything” has continued to be a topic of conversation online. Whether the attention has been good or bad for Evans it’s unknown. However, when asked if he regretted agreeing to the documentary, he simply wrote, “Not at all.”
