Matt Damon Seen in a Power Rangers-Type Suit on the Set of New Movie from “Everything Everywhere All at Once” Directors
Matt Damon is filming his first movie since ‘The Odyssey,’ which has grown into the second highest-grossing movie of 2026 so far
Matt Damon was photographed wearing a bright red superhero-type costume on the set of his new movie from the filmmakers behind Everything Everywhere All at Once in Los Angeles on Sept. 2
Damon described the project in a July interview as " The Breakfast Club meets Inception meets an anime film meets an episode of The John Oliver Show that didn't get aired"
The movie is the first project Damon has filmed since The Odyssey
Matt Damon is getting back to work on his first movie after The Odyssey 's release.
Damon, 55, was photographed in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Sept. 2, wearing a colorful red, white and yellow superhero costume complete with a matching helmet with a large letter "C" and red cape on the set of his new movie.
The film comes from Everything Everywhere All at Once writing and directing duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.
In photos from the movie's set, Damon is surrounded by other actors wearing similar pink, green, yellow and blue costumes that can only be described as reminiscent of those worn by the superhero characters Power Rangers .
Little is known about the Daniels' new movie, which seems to tentatively be titled Thasnagar . Ryan Gosling was initially cast in the film in March , but multiple outlets reported on April 2 that he would no longer star due to scheduling conflicts .
Gosling has since announced that he will star in a new Ghost Rider movie for Marvel Studios as his second collaboration with filmmaker Shawn Levy, with whom he made his upcoming Star Wars movie Starfighter .
Deadline first reported that Damon was stepping into the Daniels' new project on May 20. According to ProductionList , Thasnagar "is described as a sci-fi adventure coming-of-age story centered on high school students who want to save the world."
Damon himself shared what he described as Kwan and Scheinert's elevator pitch for the movie when he appeared on The Dan Patrick Show back on July 23.
"The way they pitched it to me was it's The Breakfast Club meets Inception meets an anime film meets an episode of The John Oliver Show that didn't get aired," Damon said, with a laugh. "So if you liked Everything Everywhere All at Once and all the wildness and all the heart, I think you'll really like this one, too. It's a really special project."
Kwan, 38, and Scheinert, 39, are known professionally as "the Daniels." The duo rose to prominence when Everything Everywhere All at Once , which starred Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu, won seven Academy Awards , including Best Picture, at the 2023 Oscars .
The duo has not released a narrative movie together since. Kwan most recently produced a documentary on artificial intelligence titled The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist .
Damon, of course, most recently starred in The Odyssey , which surpassed Deadpool & Wolverine as the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever on Aug. 20. The movie is the second highest-grossing film of any movie released so far in 2026, behind only Spider-Man: Brand New Day .
Damon is also expected to reprise his role as Linus from the Ocean's heist franchise in Ocean's 14 , a sequel to 2007's Ocean's Thirteen that would reunite him with George Clooney , Brad Pitt , Julia Roberts and Don Cheadle .
