Apple announces $2,899 MacBook Pro — its first touchscreen laptop
Apple has unveiled its first touchscreen MacBook.
Apple ( AAPL ) has done something company observers never thought it would: launched a MacBook with a touchscreen display.
Called the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, the laptop gets, you guessed it, an XDR OLED touchscreen, with better colors and brightness than standard LCD displays.
Available in 14-inch and 16-inch options, the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display also gets the iPhone's Dynamic Island, which houses the laptop's Center Stage webcam. It's also where you'll find Siri AI and Live Activities.
Inside, the notebooks can be outfitted with either Apple's M5 Pro or M5 Max processors.
All of that, however, will cost you: The 14-inch model starts at a wallet-draining $2,899, while the 16-inch will set you back $3,199.
The base MacBook Pro 14-inch with Apple's new M6 processor starts at $1,999. The standard MacBook Pro 16-inch with Apple's M5 Pro processor starts at $2,999.
Those prices represent a $300 increase that Apple implemented in June due to the global memory and storage shortage.
Apple's move to include a touchscreen display with its MacBook comes years after rivals Microsoft ( MSFT ), HP ( HPQ ), Dell ( DELL ), and others implemented the technology in their own laptops.
Apple previously dabbled with touch on its Macs with its Touch Bar, a thin touch-sensitive OLED strip that sat above the keyboard. But the company discarded the feature after it failed to gain traction among users.
The MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display — man, that's a lot of words for a laptop — comes a day after Apple debuted upgraded versions of its MacBook Pro and iMac . The company kicked off the week with a refresh to its iPad mini , which received a larger, improved display and a new processor.
Apple's Mac line of devices accounted for $33.7 billion of the company's $416.1 billion in 2025, making it the tech giant's fourth-largest segment by sales. Apple's iPhone brought in $209.5 billion, while services made up $109.1 billion.
The company has stepped up the cadence of product launches in the second half of the year, bringing out everything from new chips to updated AirPods and more.
The most ambitious device is the iPhone Duo , which is currently sold out in stores, with delivery times extending into late January.
