Another popular squishy toy for kids recalled over ‘risk of serious injury or death’

(NEXSTAR) — Another popular children’s squeeze toy has been recalled over concerns that the beads within it could cause serious injury or death, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

More than 275 Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys, imported by Toyworld168, Inc. of Orlando, Florida, are impacted by the recall , published Thursday.

Earlier this month, the CPSC announced that thousands of similar squishy dumplings and buns had been recalled. The agency also urged consumers to stop using a third variety, despite the company not agreeing to recall them.

All of the products, including those impacted by Thursday’s recall, have water beads within them. If ingested, they could expand within the child’s body and cause choking and intestinal obstruction, “resulting in severe discomfort, vomiting, dehydration, and a risk of death to a child,” the CPSC explains.

The Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys implicated in the latest recall are translucent green, contain glitter and water beads, and have a cartoon face. They’re sold in a tan container that resembles a bamboo steamer, with “Rainbow MYSTERY” and “SUGAR EDITION” printed on the removable labeling.

The toys were sold at “various third-party stores” in the U.S. in June and July for about $3 each.

If you or your child have any of these squishy toys, the CPSC encourages you to stop using them immediately. To receive a full refund from Toyworld168, the CPSC says you will need to write “RECALLED” in permanent marker on the toy and its container, throw it away, and then take a picture of it. The photo of the disposed toy can then be sent to toyworld16850@gmail.com.

The CPSC has not received any reports of injuries or incidents related to these squishy toys.
