New Delhi: Come Nov 1 and all telecom operators will have to display caller names with telephone number on receivers' screens. The department of telecommunications issued the directive on calling name presentation service on Oct 13 as part of efforts to tackle the menace of spam calls and the same is applicable to all operators holding a licence or authorisation to provide access services across all service areas. As of now, this order is for 4G and 5G wireless networks. Govt will consider extending the facility to 2G, 3G and landline networks at a later stage. Operators will from next month have to ensure that all incoming domestic calls display both the caller's number and name. If a number is saved then the name will appear accordingly, otherwise it'll appear the name as per caller operator's records will be on screen. A call from abroad will show "international call"."Trials have been carried out by telecommunication service providers for the introduction of calling name presentation service in wireless terrestrial networks. All TSPs who hold authorisation or licence to provide access services are hereby instructed to introduce calling name presentation service in their telecom networks across all service areas with effect from Nov 1, 2026," read the order. You use AI every day.
