MUMBAI: Parle Biscuits has named George Kovoor as CEO, the first such appointment in several years, as the firm looks for new growth avenues in a market where the rise of online platforms and new-age brands are rapidly changing the way consumers shop. Kovoor who assumed office from Sept 1 is a former PepsiCo executive and served for over three decades at the beverage giant across senior leadership roles covering various markets.“As our business continues to evolve with the changing needs of Indian consumers, his (Kovoor) ability to drive results, develop talent and navigate complex markets will be invaluable. The company looks forward to his leadership and contribution to its next phase of growth,” said Ajay Chauhan, MD at Parle Biscuits. The management will work with Kovoor to open up new opportunities for sustainable growth for the company, Chauhan added.Parle Biscuits has given India some of its most popular household brands such as Parle-G, Monaco and Hide & Seek. Kovoor’s appointment comes at a time when the firm is expanding its presence across Asia, Africa and other global markets. There has also been market buzz about a potential IPO but the firm has so far denied any such development.“This seems like a shift from a family control to a more structured professional setup, while ownership likely stays within the family. The shift likely reflects three pressures—a larger and more complex business driven by stronger distribution and new geography and tech capabilities. Faster-changing consumer preferences shaping the portfolio of products and the need for stronger governance and outside credibility ahead of a possible IPO,” said independent consumer consultant Akshay D’Souza.Get the latest Business News and Live updates.
