( NewsNation ) — Doctors dominate the nation’s highest-paying occupations , but you don’t need an MD to make six figures in health care.

Nurse practitioners, physician assistants and medical and health services managers are expected to be among the fastest-growing jobs over the next decade that pay over $100k, according to the Labor Department .

The nation’s aging population is fueling demand for health care and social assistance workers, and the sector is expected to add more jobs than any other — about 2.2 million through 2035. That translates to roughly 37 percent of all new jobs.

Nurse practitioner jobs are projected to grow 41 percent through 2035, faster than any other occupation and nearly 12 times as fast as total employment, which is expected to grow 3.5 percent. The median annual wage for nurse practitioners was about $132,000 in 2025, compared with roughly $51,000 across all jobs.

The rise of AI is the other standout trend, with data scientists and computer and information research scientists also ranking among the fastest-growing jobs paying over $100,000 a year.

The new Labor Department employment projections cover more than 800 jobs and reflect the latest available wage data as of May 2025.
