Generation Investment Management Global Equity Strategy stated the following regarding West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. (NYSE:WST) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. (NYSE:WST): A West component represents only about 0.4% of the end cost of a finished drug – a trivial share. Yet if that component fails, the damage can be catastrophic. The classic illustration of this risk comes from the early 2000s. Organic compounds leached from rubber stoppers into a brand of erythropoietin, used to treat kidney disease, and patients developed immune reactions. To ensure this did not happen again, regulations on drug packaging were tightened significantly. West was the first company to come up with a solution. It offered 'inter-coated' packaging products (comprising a layer that sits between the drug and the rubber) that have since become the industry standard. It also has a near 100% share of GLP-1 drugs. In part for these reasons, we score West a 1 on our internal rating of Business Quality, the highest score we offer...."
