Gene Munster Says Tesla Cybercab's Austin Launch Signals Elon Musk’s ‘Paranoid’ Phase Over Robotaxi Accidents Is Over: ‘That’s Just the Start’

Investor Gene Munster of Deepwater Asset Management thinks that the Tesla Inc. Cybercab launch reflects a shift in CEO Elon Musk 's outlook on incidents involving self-driving vehicles.

In a post on X on Thursday, Munster quoted a video from the official Tesla handle that showcased the Cybercab. "Elon's days of being 'paranoid' over accidents appear to be coming to an end," Munster said.

The investor said that he expects Tesla to deploy 300 units of the Cybercab across Austin within the next month. "That's just the start," the investor added, outlining bullish sentiments about the EV giant's Robotaxi efforts.

Incidents involving Robotaxis have happened and been reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), with unredacted documents from the regulator showing that two Supervised Tesla Robotaxis were involved in incidents in Austin.

Notably, Tesla submitted five additional crash reports to NHTSA in January 2026, bringing the total number of reported Robotaxi incidents in Austin to 14 since the service launched in June 2025. A subsequent February filing added another incident, bringing the reported total to 15.

On the other hand, Tesla rival Alphabet Inc. -backed Robotaxi operator Waymo also reported an incident to NHTSA involving one of its Robotaxis that hit a child near a school in Santa Monica, California, earlier this year.

Musk, following the Cybercab launch event, touted a "golden era" for the transportation sector, saying that the Cybercab was gold in color to reflect the shift. The CEO also touted expanding Tesla's workforce in Austin following the Cybercab launch.
