The medical device maker identified the incident on Tuesday and says the timeline for a full restoration is not yet known

Boston Scientific disclosed Wednesday that a cyberattack detected the previous day is disrupting its global operations, including its ability to process and ship customer orders.

The company identified the incident on Tuesday, August 25, and activated its incident response protocols, bringing in third-party cybersecurity experts to assess and contain the threat, the company said. The full scope of the attack, including its operational and financial impact, remains unknown, and Boston Scientific said it has not yet determined whether the incident is likely to have a material effect on the company.

"While the company is working diligently to restore affected functions and systems access, the timeline for a full restoration is not yet known," the filing said.

Boston Scientific stock fell 5.8% in premarket trading Wednesday.

The cyberattack comes at a difficult moment for the Marlborough, Massachusetts-based company. Boston Scientific stock had already lost close to half its value this year heading into Wednesday's disclosure, according to CNBC , pressured by investor concern following a disappointing profit outlook issued earlier in the year.

Boston Scientific trimmed its full-year profit outlook last month after demand for its Watchman heart implant fell short of expectations. The company cut its full-year 2026 adjusted earnings per share forecast to a range of $3.28 to $3.32, down from a prior range of $3.34 to $3.41, and reduced its full-year organic sales growth outlook to 5% to 6%, from a prior range of 6.5% to 8%. The drag on the Watchman business stems from a shift in clinical practice, with doctors more frequently pairing the device with other heart procedures in a single visit rather than scheduling dedicated Watchman-only cases.

Despite that guidance cut, the company's second-quarter results topped expectations. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $0.86, above the company's own guided range of $0.82 to $0.84, on net sales of $5.44 billion.

Boston Scientific's board also approved a restructuring initiative earlier this summer involving adjustments to sourcing and logistics, manufacturing relocations, and organizational changes, with a target completion date of late 2029, the company said.
