(NEXSTAR) – Possible lead contamination has prompted the recall of thousands of cans of Walmart’s Great Value-branded fruit cocktail.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday designated the recall as Class II , meaning that consumption or exposure to the recalled fruit cocktail could “cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”

According to the recall notice , more than 44,000 cans of Great Value Fruit Cocktail in Fruit Juice from Concentrate may have been contaminated with elevated levels of lead.

The 15-ounce cans have a lot code of 6FCB 04 C2263 and a “best if used by” date of “SEP 01 2027” printed on them.

They were distributed to Walmart stores in Alabama, Arizona, Louisiana, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Wyoming. The recall was initiated on Oct. 1, meaning the impacted cans are likely no longer on store shelves.

No other lots or Great Value products are impacted in the recall.

If you do have a can of fruit cocktail that matches the above lot and date codes, you are advised not to eat it. There’s no safe level of lead, according to the FDA .

Earlier this month, multiple varieties of frozen berries sold at Walmart and Trader Joe’s stores in 33 states were recalled over possible E. coli contamination.
