OpenAI’s executive churn continues as another returns to Salesforce

OpenAI (Unlisted:OPAI) global head of AI transformation for go-to-market, Peter Doolan, is returning to Salesforce, according to The Information.

Doolan becomes the second senior sales leader from the ChatGPT maker to rejoin the enterprise software company in as many weeks.

He follows Kaylin Voss, OpenAI's vice president of Americas sales, who resigned in mid-August 2026 to rejoin Salesforce after roughly five months on the job.

Her departure came a week after OpenAI Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser left the company, a move that prompted OpenAI to name Dali Rajic as its new CRO, the fifth change in that role within a year.

The Information has reported that 22 additional former Salesforce employees now at OpenAI are in active talks to return to Salesforce.

The departures highlight instability in OpenAI's enterprise sales leadership at a sensitive moment for the company. OpenAI is moving toward a for-profit structure and preparing for a planned 2027 initial public offering, a transition in which revenue predictability and management continuity are likely to draw close scrutiny from prospective investors.

The fact that several of the exits are "boomerang" moves back to Salesforce, rather than departures to unrelated companies, also underscores how closely the two companies' talent pools remain intertwined even as they continue operating as commercial partners.

OpenAI has seen more than 13 senior executives depart in 2026 as the company moves toward a for-profit structure and prepares for a planned 2027 initial public offering.

Salesforce and OpenAI remain commercial partners. The companies deepened their partnership in October 2025 to integrate OpenAI's models into Salesforce's Einstein and Agentforce products.
