Wipro Kawasaki to Invest Rs 1,000 Crore

Bengaluru: Wipro Kawasaki Precision Machinery plans to invest Rs 1,000 crore to set up a new hydraulic pump manufacturing plant at Harohalli in Karnataka, creating around 1,200 jobs, Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil said.The company, a joint venture between Wipro and Japan-based Kawasaki Heavy Industries, has sought 30 acres in Phase V of Harohalli Industrial Area for the proposed facility. The govt will expedite land allotment, with the plant expected to commence operations within a year, Patil said.The proposed facility is expected to manufacture more than two lakh hydraulic pumps annually, significantly expanding the company’s existing production capacity.Wipro Kawasaki currently operates a manufacturing unit on leased premises at Kumbalgodu, where it manufactures around 80,000 hydraulic pumps a year. The company began production at Kumbalgodu in Dec 2012 and expanded its capacity to 30,000 units annually in its initial phase, according to the company’s website.The company has since expanded its manufacturing footprint, with a plant at Bidadi commencing operations in 2019.Patil held discussions with a high-level delegation led by Wipro Kawasaki CEO Minoru Hatsuda in Bengaluru. “We will provide the land expeditiously. The new manufacturing plant is expected to commence operations within a year,” Patil said.“The project proposed by Wipro Kawasaki is attractive. We have asked the company to initiate the necessary work immediately. Final approval for the investment proposal will be given at the next meeting,” he said.Wipro Kawasaki Precision Machinery manufactures hydraulic components for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of excavators and other machinery in India.
