Two Cash App settlements are drawing interest from users: One settlement is currently being paid, and the other has recently issued payments. Claims can no longer be filed for either one.
Cash App and its parent company, Block Inc. ( XYZ ), are issuing payments in October as part of a settlement of a class action lawsuit over alleged security breaches that occurred between Aug. 23, 2018, and Aug. 20, 2024. The deadline to file a claim has passed.
The $15 million settlement fund pays previously approved claimants up to $2,500 for out-of-pocket losses, transaction losses, and up to $75 for three hours of lost time.
The other settlement, totaling $175 million, involved a consent order in which the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau accused Cash App of failing to protect users from fraud. Details on that June payout are below.
The lawsuit alleged that a former Cash App employee and an unauthorized person used recycled phone numbers to gain access to accounts. The plaintiffs also claimed that a security breach exposed personal information of Cash App Investing customers. The class action lawsuit alleged that the company failed to respond effectively to complaints about payment issues and that users found it difficult to obtain assistance from Cash App support.
The company pledged to improve data security but denied any fault or wrongdoing.
The deadline to file a claim was Nov. 18, 2024, and a California court gave final approval to the settlement in March 2025. Approved claimants are expected to receive payments this month by check, prepaid card, Venmo, or Zelle.
About 40,380 claims were approved out of over 667,000 filed, totaling $5.6 million and averaging approximately $139 per payout, before any adjustments.
A separate CFPB settlement has already been paid
Another recent Cash App settlement is stirring interest and potentially confusing potential recipients. In June, payments were issued to eligible customers by order of the CFPB. Cash App users who qualified for the settlement checks were sent an email with the subject line "Your Compensation Payment from Cash App is on the Way."
No claim form was required for this settlement. Cash App's parent company, Block Inc. identified eligible customers. Checks were mailed beginning June 8 by Epiq Global, a third-party settlement administrator. The amounts issued varied by customer and weren't publicly released.

A third settlement, a $12.5 million case over Cash App referral texts, was paid to Washington state residents in April 2026.
Any offer to file a late claim or offer a Cash App payment for a fee in any settlement is likely a scam.
