Stock performance in the second quarter was pressured by high capital requirements for large-scale M&A activity and operational challenges in executing major projects, which weighed on the company's return on average capital employed (ROACE). Despite the stock price trending downward from a peak near $220 in early April to approximately $170 by the end of June, the business saw a recovery in its core profit engines as capacity of approximately 3 million barrels.
