Dubai Duty Free to offer discounts on UPI payments

MUMBAI: NPCI International Payments (NIPL), the international arm of NPCI, has announced a 10% discount of up to AED 100 for Indian travellers shopping at Dubai Duty Free outlets when they pay through UPI. The offer covers eligible purchases at participating outlets at Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport.Travellers must activate UPI International or UPI Global through their UPI-enabled app and link an eligible Indian bank account to make payments. Network International will act as the acquiring partner, enabling UPI acceptance at participating payment terminals and processing transactions. Dubai Duty Free sells products across categories such as fashion, beauty, electronics, confectionery, beverages, watches and jewellery.The initiative is aimed at expanding UPI acceptance across retail outlets in the UAE and strengthening digital payment connectivity between India and the UAE.According to Ritesh Shukla, MD & CEO of NPCI International, the initiative aims to encourage wider UPI adoption by offering Indian travellers a familiar payment option overseas. "Through this initiative, we aim to encourage wider adoption of UPI while elevating the overall journey for Indian visitors," he said.According to Murat Cagri Suzer, group CEO of Network International, the partnership will connect international payment schemes with local acceptance points in the UAE. "We are giving Indian visitors a familiar, secure way to pay as they shop. This reflects the flexibility and innovation at the core of our acquiring infrastructure – connecting international payment schemes to local acceptance points, reliably and at scale," he said.According to Ramesh Cidambi, managing director of Dubai Duty Free, the integration will allow Indian travellers to use a familiar payment method while shopping at the airports.
