AEW WrestleDream 2026 results, grades, awards: Will Ospreay survives Clockwork Carnage; Ilja Dragunov debuts
Ospreay successfully fended off seven challengers in the thrilling main event of AEW WrestleDream 2026, planting the seeds for what's to come.
AEW WrestleDream 2026 went down tonight — Saturday, Oct. 17 — and centered on Clockwork Carnage, the new match type AEW World Champion Will Ospreay introduced to the company. Inside Orlando's Addition Financial Arena, Ospreay successfully fended off seven challengers in the thrilling main event, planting the seed for what's to come.By the time Saturday's finale rolled around, you could've easily forgotten WrestleDream centered on the world title main event with its fancy new stipulation. That's because everything before it was that damn good. But make no mistake, Clockwork Carnage — and Ospreay — are here to stay. The match concept had all the potential to be a cluster of confusion with its various rules. Once the match got going, though, it was easy enough for a fifth grader to understand. It was a multi-layered story that primarily focused on Ospreay entering first and attempting to defend his title in the stipulation match he created. Meanwhile, Adam Copeland is officially making the final push of his career to become a world champion. And boy, did he come close, as a final Spear to Kazuchika Okada would've given him the win until a literal last-second Ospreay Hidden Blade sealed it. This was the most car-crash match possible without a literal car crash match existing. (Don't get any ideas, Tony Khan).EVERY SECOND COUNTS! 🔥 The clock is ticking down, and the battle for the final pin has turned into PURE DESPERATION!Watch #AEWWrestleDream LIVE on PPV! pic.twitter.com/7v0HJlZUpa— All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) October 18, 2026 Funny enough, the only real problem with the match was how Ospreay was handled. The champ has been booked so strongly and kicked out of so many devastating moves lately that seeing him take all these pins and submissions felt unrealistic, despite the match itself being an all-out sprint of action. At the same time, it admittedly helped bring Ospreay back down to Earth in light of any recent "overpowered" claims he's received. It's a double-edged sword — or blade, if you will. But all in all, Clockwork Carnage was arguably the most fun wrestling match of the year. I didn't say it was the best. It was, however, an absolute ripper of a time, and hopefully we see it again.Samoa Joe just made the AEW World Champion TAP OUT! 🤯Watch #AEWWrestleDream LIVE on PPV! pic.twitter.com/essd8O2Mzi— All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) October 18, 2026 Shortly before the main event, AEW revealed its recently teased new arrival: Ilja Dragunov.Wildly enough, Dragunov makes his promotional debut a full year to the day since he returned from his ACL tear in WWE to win the U.S. Championship off Sami Zayn. And boy, how thrilling is it to have someone with the style of the "Mad Dragon" on this roster?.@UNBESIEGBAR_ZAR HAS ARRIVED IN AEW! 🔥Watch #AEWWrestleDream LIVE on PPV! pic.twitter.com/xgAQR6LoMZ— All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) October 18, 2026 Saturday night's much-anticipated women's world title match kicked off the pay-per-view properly after FTR and Motor City Machine Guns battled through the pre-show — in a stellar match of their own, mind you. Mercedes Moné and Thekla brought the house down early in what wound up being a valiant effort for Thekla, despite her falling short. Shenanigans ensued late, which opened the door for more to play out between these two down the line. Even without that bit, though, this match worked well and Moné and Thekla pair together wonderfully. Once again, the match was largely all about Page and Strickland's forever feud, which will surely cause the end of Strickland's alliance with New Level. But everyone played their parts to great effect, and it closes out the current chapter of things between Strickland and Page, while moving New Level in their inevitable tag-focused direction.WE'RE ALL TIED UP! 🔥 @bandidowrestler, Hangman Adam Page & @Brodyxking take the second fall! It makes no sense that The Young Bucks are still able to go in the way they can, and they defeated the duo of Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight tonight to retain their belts. The match the world is waiting for now is the Bucks against New Level, but Knight and Fletcher sold multiple tickets for a potential win in what was a strong contender for tag match of the year. This pairing was destined to deliver, and they went above and beyond.A costly mistake by Fletcher and “The Jet”! 😬Watch #AEWWrestleDream LIVE on PPV! pic.twitter.com/erPAaqbrFH— All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) October 18, 2026 What All Out lacked in pacing, WrestleDream made up for in spades. Only a match or two tonight felt like they took noticeably more time than the others. But collectively, WrestleDream hit you in the face like an unrelenting heatwave. It was just too hot to look away, and a home run on all fronts. AEW WrestleDream 2026 crown score: 👑 10/10 👑AEW WrestleDream 2026 Uncrowned AwardsMVP of the Night: Ilja DragunovJust think about this: Everyone loves surprises in wrestling. We've seen them executed to perfection numerous times in AEW, specifically. On rare occasions, the surprise isn't much of a surprise, and it still delivers even if it was so expected, like CM Punk's debut. With Dragunov, AEW teased his arrival ahead of Saturday night with vignettes that hid his face. It seemed pretty clear it was him, but instead of giving him a typical interruption spot or something similar, Renee Paquette took to the ramp and introduced Dragunov, who was celebrated like a hometown hero. He trotted around the ring without saying a word, showering in cheers. The entire presentation of the dude screamed "Final Boss" — a far cry from his final days in WWE. We aren't ready for the run he's about to go on, folks.#AEW CEO & GM @TonyKhan announces that @UNBESIEGBAR_ZAR's will make his in-ring debut THIS WEDNESDAY on #AEWDynamite! pic.twitter.com/AGfha3tPBv— All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) October 18, 2026 Uncrowned Gem of the Night: Nick Wayne vs. JerichoI really would love to give tonight's Gem to Moné and Thekla, but it feels too easy. In their trilogy match, Nick Wayne and Jericho put on one hell of a fun and surprisingly hard-hitting match. They blend far better together than you might expect, not just from an athletic standpoint, but character-wise. Most importantly, Wayne overcame Jericho's experience and veteran status in a fun cup spot and won. Wayne's win was a major reason this match will be remembered fondly, and it was booked exceptionally well in every beat..@IAmJericho came prepared! 👏Watch #AEWWrestleDream LIVE on PPV! pic.twitter.com/8NilIG5qyj— All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) October 18, 2026 Also, I have to shout out the tiniest pyro ever for Wayne's win. That was hilarious.Match of the Night: The Young Bucks vs. The Don Callis Family (Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight)It truly isn't fair how good The Young Bucks are at tag-team wrestling. They've mastered it in every facet, every stipulation, every combination of opponents; it simply doesn't matter. We've seen enough. Throw away the books. These guys are them.To put them against the "new kids on the block" with a still somewhat random team of Fletcher and Knight was undeniably brilliant. Fletcher was effectively the "big" guy of the match, and considering that, he fit like a glove opposite three very strong high-flyers. And while the Bucks are still as good as they've ever been, the best part about their matches is arguably that they still carry so much unpredictability. At this point, AEW tag-team wrestling barely needs descriptors. Just watch it. It's too good.Nick Jackson has Kyle Fletcher reeling! 😳Watch #AEWWrestleDream LIVE on PPV! pic.twitter.com/aZ3vcrHOwT— All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) October 18, 2026 Spots of the Night: Bandido's avalanche Fallaway Flip Slam to The New Level, Mark Davis' middle-rope turnbuckle sleeper hold escape, and Konosuke Takeshita's double-knee counter to Darby Allin's suicide diveIt's a trifecta this time — and admittedly it could've been more, but I won't get carried away.Bandido is such an underrated freak of nature with some of the physical feats he pulls off. That's pretty standard practice for both, but some of the submission escapes were wild in this one. Particularly, Davis absolutely pinpointing Moxley into the middle turnbuckle to get out of a sleeper hold.It wasn't the craziest spot of all time, but the hilarity of how clean and perfect it was has to be highlighted..@DUNKZILLADavis finds a way to escape!Watch #AEWWrestleDream LIVE on PPV! pic.twitter.com/paaoFWEnNR— All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) October 18, 2026 Clockwork Carnage was bound to deliver phenomenal spots and gave us several, especially toward the finish.
