College football scores, results: SMU holds off Florida State to win on late FG after long delay at start of game
Week 1 wrapped up with SMU pulling out a narrow win over Florida State.
Week 1 wrapped up Monday with an ACC showdown in Tallahassee that didn't disappoint despite a late start as No. 19 SMU held off Florida State for a 27-24 win.The game was delayed more than 90 minutes due to a power outage. Per ESPN's broadcast, a transformer blew as the power was trying to be restored to the stadium. What was set to be a very brief delay stretched out well over an hour as players from both teams went back to their locker rooms. But when they were finally on the field, it was a show — albeit one that featured a lot of head-scratching mistakes. The Mustangs constantly kicked themselves in the foot and gave the Seminoles several chances to stay in the game despite an offense that was nearly unstoppable with Kevin Jennings at the helm. The star QB threw for a career-high 430 yards and three touchdowns — but also accounted for two of SMU's four turnovers. The Mustangs were one of the favorites in the ACC and are capable of getting back to the playoff for the second time in three seasons with a healthy Jennings, but they have plenty to clean up after Monday's win.For Florida State, the result is a bitter pill. The Seminoles were in the game late despite a stunning lack of defense and not much output from Ashton Daniels and its offense. It'll put even more pressure on FSU coach Mike Norvell, who was roundly booed for his decision-making and when he was shown on the video board to the home crowd at Doak Campbell Stadium. See how it all played out below with highlights, analysis and more.
