A big feature in the Crimson Desert DLC, Charting the Unknown, is getting your own ship to sail the Pywel seas. If you're wondering how to get your first ship, how to get better ones, and other useful info like how to upgrade your ship, you're in the right place. Depending on where you are in the story, it can be confusing since it isn't quite clear!

How to Get Your First Ship in Charting the Unknown

Before you go looking for a ship, make sure you have the Charting the Unknown DLC. Sailing isn't part of the base game; therefore, you won't be able to do it without the DLC. Once you have it, you'll need to have progressed far enough in the Greymanes Faction Quests .

As explained in our overall DLC guide , you'll need to complete the Gathered Will quest chain under Grounds of the Sunrise . This requires finishing the final quest in that quest chain, Expanding the Camp . After doing so, you should have access to the new Greymanes Faction Quest category, Charting the Unknown.

You can then follow the quest chain for A Wider World to build your first ship. This will also introduce how sailing works, pioneering an island, and more.

Once you've gotten your first ship, the Small Greymane Ship, you may want to get a bigger one. This is a good way to sail faster, carry more trade goods, and boost your firepower. However, you'll need a whole lot of Camp Funds and/or materials before you can get a new one.

There are many basic ships that you can buy by simply going to the right port. We've included some basic information on how much they cost and where to find them in the table below. While each ship size runs for the same cost, they do have different stats. And if you want a legendary ship, you'll need to track down the right blueprints before you can build it.

How to Upgrade a Ship in Charting the Unknown

Before you can upgrade a ship in Crimson Desert, you'll need to get upgrades to equip. And on top of that, many ship parts are specific to the ship's size. You can either buy ship parts from a Ship Outfitter , found at certain ports, or craft them yourself. One location to find a Ship Outfitter is the Silvermoon Tradehouse/Demeniss Port.

But if you've found a blueprint that you'd like to craft, you'll need a Workstation. You can place a Sturdy Workstation at your house or use one at a facility like the Timberham Sawmill after getting it up and running . Once you want to equip those new parts to your ship, find a Ship Manager at a port. Speak to them via the Manage Ships prompt and then if your ship is in port, tap Manage Ships next.

Hover over the ship that you want to customize and press the Change Equipment button prompt visible along the bottom of your screen. This will reveal a new window where you can equip ship parts from your inventory. With that said, certain slots will be locked if your ship isn't large enough.
