Resident Evil (2026) 4K Steelbook Is Up for Preorder

Heads up, horror fans. Zach Cregger’s 2026 movie Resident Evil may have just hit theaters, but the 4K steelbook edition is already up for preorder ( see it at Amazon ). The MSRP is $44.99, and the release date is TBA, presumably depending on how the film does in cinemas around the world. Still, if you want this special edition, I would recommend preordering soon, because 4K steelbooks of popular movies often sell out well before release.

Resident Evil isn’t a typical adaptation of Capcom’s beloved video game franchise. Instead of adapting a story that’s already been told in a game, writer/director Zach Cregger wanted to make a movie that gives audiences the same feeling gamers have when playing the games.

It’s still set in a zombie-infested Raccoon City, but instead of telling the story of Leon, Claire, or co., it follows a medical courier named Bryan, who has a delivery that brings him to the doomed town. What follows is 95 minutes of undead mayhem, splashed with blood, gore, tension, and more than a little humor thrown in for good measure.

That’s about what I would expect from Cregger, who is also the creative driving force behind the exemplary horror movies Barbarian and Weapons , both of which go to very unexpected places. They both also blend horror and comedy in unique and, to my mind, exciting ways.

In IGN’s Resident Evil review , critic Tom Jorgensen gave it an 8/10, writing: “With a clear appreciation for odds stacked against the protagonist and all manner of freaky foes to stand against them, Cregger ably adapts the spirit, if not the letter, of the Resident Evil games into a jet-fueled horror experience that has room for lots of tension, some great laughs, and a strong central performance from Austin Abrams.”
