Should the plural of “State of Play” be States of Play or State of Plays? Either way, Sony is starting September with two back-to-back showcase streams — a State of Play and a State of Play Japan — on Thursday, September 3. These will be the second and third State of Play of the year following the one in early June , which gave us that bloody Wolverine opening (cool) and the first big look at God of War Laufey. In its August 31 blog post , Sony didn’t provide many specifics about what to expect outside of an “extended look” at Final Fantasy VII Revelation and the typical promise of "updates and announcements," but we have some ideas about what we'll see ( more on that below ).

IGN will be carrying the stream; here’s everything you need to know about how to watch, where to watch, and what you can expect from the double-header State of Play lineup.

When Does PlayStation’s September 2026 State of Play Start?

Sony will kick off the first State of Play on September 3 at 6am PT / 9am ET / 3pm CEST / 10pm JST. The company didn’t say how long that one will go (though they typically run for about 40 minutes), but the State of Play Japan, hosted by Yuki Kaji, will immediately follow. Both streams will be in English and Japanese (hosted in English with Japanese subtitles available for the first; hosted in Japanese and subtitled in English for the second).

We’ll be hosting a pre-show 15 minutes before the start of the first presentation at 5:45am PT / 8:45am ET / 2:45pm CEST / 9:45pm JST.

Once the Sony streams wrap, IGN will be live again for a Beyond post-show to discuss everything we just saw.

We’ll also be liveblogging these streams and covering everything that gets announced — stay tuned for all the news.

How to Watch the September 2026 PlayStation State of Play

IGN will be hosting State of Play streams right on IGN dot com, as well as all the classic social channels and our handy-dandy app. Here are all of those links:

What to Expect From the September 2026 PlayStation State of Play

A double stream! That’s fun. In its blog post, Sony teased the classic “updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners” and will end on ”an extended look at the vast world of Final Fantasy VII Revelation.” (We also got a not-so-extended look at the game that highlighted the Weapons out of gamescom's Opening Night Live. )

What else? Well, maybe one last look at Marvel’s Wolverine before it comes out later this month, God of War Laufey, a Ghost of Yotei DLC, Kingdom Hearts 4, Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Resident Evil: Veronica… Would it finally be time to get another look at Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet? It was noticeably absent from June's SoP and it did just wrap performance capture .

Sony’s been in hot water lately with its insistent commitment to ending physical games by 2028 . You can surely expect the chat to be popping off with people having big feelings about it — that’s what happened during the Phantom Blade Zero stream in mid-August.
