LIVE: Rockstar Finally Reveals Official GTA 6 Gameplay, First on Netflix

We visited Rockstar North to see GTA 6 and came away seriously impressed by a live gameplay demo . The 30-minute play session showcased a Grand Theft Auto with a huge emphasis on the little details that make an open world feel like a real place.

We spoke to Rob Nelson, co-studio head of Rockstar North, to learn about how GTA 6 is building on the series’ almost 30-year legacy: “It’s a Step Forward in All Respects.”

Across both the new “Extended Look” video and the demo session we saw at Rockstar, we’ve learned many new gameplay details .

GTA 6 will feature ‘a Very Big Map’ that’s home to its most complex world yet.

That world features the same style of satirical humour GTA is historically known for, but Rockstar admits it has to be “careful” with its jokes .

The developer considered four protagonists for GTA 6 before settling on a criminal couple.

Jason and Lucia’s Bonnie and Clyde-style romance is optional , and can be played more like a platonic partnership.

With over a decade of anticipation, Rockstar is “nervous” about the pressure to deliver .

The new wanted level system adds deeper complexity to GTA 6’s police chases.

Car jacking has been significantly upgraded , with luxury vehicles featuring advanced security systems and electronic keys that must be cloned.

Today is the day Rockstar Games finally pulls back the curtain on the most anticipated video game of all time: Grand Theft Auto 6 — and IGN is reporting live with all the news from across the internet.

GTA 6 was confirmed four-and-a-half years ago, when Rockstar said work on the next game in the phenomenally successful franchise was in development. Following two trailers and two public delays, we are now about to get an official gameplay reveal. Netflix goes first with its Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look , which remains exclusive to the streaming platform for six hours. Netflix has said this reveal was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5, and runs 27 minutes.

The GTA 6 map size compared to other Rockstar games

As reported by The New York Times , GTA 6's Vice City is twice the size of Los Santos in GTA 5. Rockstar also told the publication that the overall map is three times as large as the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2. Yep, that's really, really big.

GTA 6 will take a while for players to finish, with the game's producer stating it took him 80 hours. In a The New York Times interview, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson revealed that it took him about 80 hours to finish the game back in February. He noted that timeframe included the main story and some "optional goals with narrative ramifications," so it's unclear if that included just mucking about in the open world. Still, that is a sizable length regardless. Nelson ultimately hopes fans take their time with the game and don't rush through it.

Here's Every GTA 6 Side Activity We've Spotted So Far

The GTA 6 gameplay reveal featured a number of side activities that will no doubt keep us busy for hours. Some of these look to be full mini-games, such as a clip of a rally racing track we were treated to at one point, while others, such as acquiring base-jumping equipment and leaping off a very tall building, look to be fun extras.

Most of the reaction I'm seeing online arevery positive about the visuals of GTA 6. At the end of the reveal we're told the gameplay was "captured on PS5," so we know what to expect from the game on Sony's console. I'm extremely impressed by the level of detail, the fluidity of animations, and the density of the environments, even at enormous scale. Very impressive indeed!

Pretty much everyone expects the November launch of GTA 6 to dominate the world of entertainment — indeed that’s one of the reasons we have a September crush of video game releases. But according to the CEO of Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead, there are two very good reasons why developers shouldn’t be too worried. More here .

Rockstar then released GTA 6 Trailer 2 in May 2025 , a year-and-a-half after Trailer 1. Anticipation was fever pitch at this point, with fans going down increasingly elaborate rabbit holes in their bid for new details and release date. The release of Trailer 2 came hot on the heels of a delay to GTA 6 itself , from fall 2025 to May 2026 (it would go on to be delayed again, to November 19, 2026).

GTA 6 Trailer 2 was captured on base PS5, as today's reveal is. "Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them," Rockstar said in the official description released at the time. "But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."

Rockstar formally announced GTA 6 in December 2023 with the release of Trailer 1. The developer confirmed the Trailer 1 launch window a month prior, issuing a rare statement from Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser:
