3 New Batman LEGO Sets Announced, Including Wall Art of an Iconic Joker Comic Cover
LEGO has announced three new Batman sets, including two Batmobiles and a wall art recreation of Jock's classic Joker comic cover.
LEGO has announced three new Batman LEGO sets coming out on January 1. Two are based on Batmobiles, and they include codes to unlock gold versions of the vehicles in the video game LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. The other one is LEGO DC Batman: The Joker Wall Art, a set that recreates a famous comic book cover as a piece of art you can actually hang on your wall. It looks awesome, but also kind of terrifying.

I love LEGO Art sets because they look great (the art literally pops out of the frame), and because they’re functional as actual decorations for your walls. This set recreates Jock’s iconic cover of Detective Comics #880 , which came out in 2011. It shows a nightmarish close-up of Joker’s face, with a giant red-ringed smile, red Batman symbols for eyes. and the whole top of his his head erupting in a flurry of flying bats.
In the LEGO version, the bats actually fly out of the frame of the “painting.” It’s a great effect. LEGO promises “hidden details” layered under the surface of the artwork that you’ll discover as you build.
Those who remember Tim Burton’s 1991 classic Batman Returns will also remember a.) the awesome Batmobile from the movie, and b.) Penguin’s giant duck vehicle. This set lets you build both. If the recent, pricier LEGO Batman Returns Batmobile cost more than you wanted to spend, then perhaps this smaller version will suffice. As an added bonus, this set comes with a code to unlock the Golden Red Brick in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, “adding a gold theme for characters and vehicles.” This set also unlocks a “gold Batman Returns Batmobile Batcave Prop in-game.”
Fans of the now-classic Batman Arkham video games can also pick up this 317-piece recreation of the series’ chunky Batmobile. It’s all sharp edges and thick tires. It looks great, and it comes with a Batman minifigure, as well as a code to unlock gold skins and/or vehicles in the Legacy of the Dark Knight.
Don't have the game? It's pretty great. As reviewer Simon Cardy wrote in his IGN review : "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a lovingly made, often hilarious take on both Batman’s movie and video game history alike. It remixes classic moments from almost every film, with deeper cuts from the Caped Crusader’s comic book beginnings, too."
Additionally, if you plan to attend New York Comic-Con, which runs October 8 - 11, you'll be able to get a close-up look at all three sets at the DC Booth (#4365), where you'll also find a nine-foot brick replica of the Joker cover.
LEGO says, "Fans who pre-order the LEGO DC Batman The Joker Wall Art on-site will receive a reprint of the issue with a LEGO-brick-inspired cover, and original cover artist Jock will be signing at the booth on Thursday, October 8 at 11:00am ET."
