Star Wars Legend Timothy Zahn Makes the Lightspeed Jump to Star Trek in 2027 - NYCC 2026

Timothy Zahn is undoubtedly one of the most important names in the world of Star Wars novels. Zahn's original Thrawn trilogy of books helped birth the Expanded Universe in the early '90s , and he's continued to chart the character's course even in Disney's new Star Wars timeline. That's why it's a little surreal to learn that Zahn is now crossing that pop culture divide and making his way to the Star Trek franchise.

IDW Publishing revealed at NYCC that Zahn is penning a new graphic novel called Star Trek: Roc's Egg. The book is illustrated by Star Trek veteran Ángel Hernández.

This new graphic novel takes place on the iconic Deep Space 9 station, as the Federation launches an investigation into the destruction of a valuable artifact and uncovers a larger conspiracy. Here's the official summary for the book:

When a mysterious artifact known as a Roc’s Egg arrives on the station—and is seemingly destroyed in transit—a Federation JAG investigation is called in to uncover what really happened. But the deeper the team digs, the stranger the mystery becomes: a secret auction, a station full of wealthy collectors and dangerous criminals, a priceless artifact that may not be what it seems, and a murder waiting to happen.

From acclaimed author Timothy Zahn and artist Ángel Hernández comes Star Trek: Roc’s Egg, a twisty new mystery set aboard Deep Space 9 where everyone has something to hide—and the truth may be more valuable than the treasure itself.

“My association with Star Trek goes all the way back to 1966 and the original TV series. Now, after sixty years, I’ve been given the chance to add my own small grace note to that rich and vibrant symphony,” said Zahn in a statement. “This is a huge honor and privilege, and one which I will always cherish.”

Star Trek: Roc's Egg will be released in October 2027.
