Johnny Depp is open to playing Jack Sparrow again in a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, despite saying he'd never work with Disney on the franchise ever again.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight , Depp was asked if he had any interest in playing Sparrow again. He noted that he wanted to send the franchise off on a better note, presumably referring to the last film being a critical disappointment.

"If things are exactly where they need to be with regard to how they're going to top off the Pirates [story]. The only involvement I really want to have, truly, is just to send them off on a better note. I'll go to work with [Jerry] Bruckheimer tomorrow for anything. If it's Jerry, I trust him. We have a deep friendship."

Depp had previously stated during his legal battle with Amber Heard that he wouldn't work with Disney on a new Pirates movie , not even for $300 million and a million alpaca. It seems he's softened his stance on the matter, which has reportedly been the case for a while. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has stated a few times over the last couple of years that he was having conversations with Depp about a new Pirates movie , but nothing has been locked in place. There is, however, a screenplay in the works , and the producer hopes to get a deal signed with Depp.

This is the first time Depp has publicly revealed he's open to the idea since swearing off the idea in 2023. Disney had also been exploring a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie with Margot Robbie in the lead role, but that has yet to make any kind of notable progress. Depp hasn't been in many blockbuster roles since his legal battle with Heard, and he was notably forced to step down from his role in the Fantastic Beasts films due to his libel case against UK outlet The Sun. He was replaced by actor Mads Mikkelsen for the third film in the franchise, which also happened to be the last.

Deep is now set to star in a new take on A Christmas Carol with the film Ebenezer , which releases on November 13. Whether Jack Sparrow will set sail again remains to be seen, but he does appear to be more into the idea than he was before.
