The Magic: The Gathering The Hobbit Gift Bundle is on sale at Amazon, but here is why crunching the numbers proves you should wait for Black Friday before buying.

Magic: The Gathering’s crossovers tend to draw a mixed response from the hardcore fans who want more of Jace, Liliana, and Gideon over the Avengers, but if there’s one crossover that’s been universally praised, it was Lord of the Rings.

Wizards of the Coast looked to follow suit this year with a return to Middle-Earth, and while The Hobbit offers a smaller set than the 2023 original, it’s still packed with great cards. And while this new Amazon deal might be tempting, here’s why we think you’re better off holding your nerve for a few weeks.

This Hobbit x Magic Deal Is Likely To Get Better

Amazon’s latest offering has the Magic x The Hobbit Gift Bundle down from $109.86 to $99.99, a 9% discount .

It’s not the steepest cut we’ve seen, but it does look like a new low price. Inside, you’ll find nine Play Boosters worth $6.99 each, as well as 34 land cards that include full-art seasonal hobbit lands in surge foil and full-art Middle-Earth Journey lands. There’s also an alternate-art promo card, but the real draw is likely to be the Collector Booster.

These can often be priced even higher than the $38 or so you’ll find them for in your local game store, and are the place you’re most likely to unwrap one of the rarest cards in the set , like Gleaming Splendor, The Arkenstone, or Smaug.

Smaug, Wicked Worm (Borderless) (Surge Foil)

Bard, King of Dale (Borderless) (Surge Foil)

Thorin, Mountain-king (Borderless) (Surge Foil)

Thranduil, the Elvenking (Borderless) (Surge Foil)

The Queen of Dale (Showcase) (Surge Foil)

Gandalf, Goblins' Bane (Borderless) (Surge Foil)

The Arkenstone (Borderless) (Surge Foil)

Smaug the Magnificent (Showcase) (Surge Foil)

Gleaming Splendor (Borderless) (Surge Foil)

When you crunch the numbers, you’re not actually saving any more than a couple of bucks on this bundle than buying its separate parts (I’m not factoring in the lands and storage box, admittedly).

With that in mind, this one feels ripe for a discount closer to the sales season. In recent years, we’ve seen Magic sets drop in price, even those launching in the same year. Expect the same to happen here.
