Nintendo Announces New Switch Sale Made Possible By "Tariff-Related" Refunds
Nintendo announces a 30% off Customer Appreciation Sale for Switch games and accessories, funded in part by tariff refunds following recent US litigation.
Nintendo has announced a new 'Customer Appreciation' Sale in the U.S, offering 30% off dozens of Switch games and more, starting on September 13 and running through September 26.
Select games, downloadable content, accessories, amiibo, and apparel will be discounted, although Nintendo has not yet provided a full list of the games and other products that will be included in the sale across the Nintendo eShop, Nintendo Store, and other participating retailers.
The video game giant has also said that the promotion is "made possible in part by tariff-related refunds" . The company says it "absorbed most tariff-related costs", but the refunds have helped make promotions such as this new sale possible.
Nintendo previously faced questions over what it would do with money returned after the US tariff regime was challenged. Nintendo recently raised the prices of some Switch products globally, citing a combination of factors including tariffs, rising component costs, labour and shipping.
It subsequently argued that consumers were not entitled to refunds for purchases made at those higher prices after a court ruled the tariffs illegal. Nintendo said customers had received "exactly what they bargained and paid for" and that it was not required to retroactively adjust prices following the outcome of the tariff litigation.
Nintendo also maintained that it had absorbed the tariff costs on the Switch 2 itself rather than simply passing them directly on to consumers.
Now, however, Nintendo says tariff-related refunds have helped make its latest promotion possible. The company says it absorbed most of the tariff-related costs, while the refunds have contributed towards promotions such as the new Customer Appreciation Sale.
