Wizards of the Coast has told IGN that its Magic: The Gathering Warhammer 40K Commander Decks, originally printed in 2022 as part of the Universes Beyond series, have seen a fresh print run and will be available for order again soon.

The four decks, which marked the first precons beyond Magic’s own universe, were well-received at launch but have largely been relegated to the secondary market. The decks currently rack up high resale prices, costing hundreds of dollars at marketplace retailers like TCGplayer.

Magic’s Warhammer 40K Decks Are Coming Back

Following reports of game stores being able to order the Warhammer 40K precon decks via their order forms, IGN reached out to Wizards of the Coast for comment.

"Yes, we can confirm that we did a small reprint of the Commander decks that will be available to distributors and stores soon,” a Wizards of the Coast spokesperson said.

“Fans and WPN retailers should check with their distributors for availability, as it may vary by region."

The four decks each focus on a specific faction of the Warhammer 40K lore, established in Games Workshop’s miniature wargame universe. Ruinous Powers is a Chaos deck, Tyranid Swarm is all about the xenomorph-like Tyranids, Necron Dynasty is a mono-black deck that leans into the mysterious undead machines, while Forces of the Imperium is focused on, well, the Imperial forces.

Before the decks launched, Magic's head designer, Mark Rosewater, said in a blog post, "There are no current plans to make in-universe Magic versions of the new cards in the Warhammer 40K Commander decks (we make in-universe ones for the Secret Lair cards), but we have the capability to do it if needed on a card-by-card basis."

That means that while it's possible that cards exclusive to the decks could be reprinted with in-universe artwork and names, a reprint should make all four much easier for collectors to get hold of. And while this is only a "small" reprint, adding more copies to the market could take some of the heat out of resale prices as well.

Although, Wizards’ statement did not confirm whether the all-foil Collector’s Edition versions of the decks would also be reprinted. There is also no word on how much any of the reprinted decks will cost (each originally retailed with a $59.99 MSRP). Nevertheless, if you’ve been waiting for any of the four, it looks as though your patience will be rewarded.

Warhammer 40K is in sharp focus at the moment. Dawn of War IV will bring the RTS franchise back this December, while Total War: Warhammer 40K is also slated for release next year. Henry Cavill's Warhammer 40K cinematic universe is also moving forward .
