Before the Brewers take the field for Game 1 of the World Series, another Milwaukee star will take center stage – a bald eagle named Valkyrie.

Valkyrie is a 15-year-old bald eagle at Milwaukee's Schlitz Audubon Nature Center who will be presented during the national anthem before Game 1 of the World Series, happening at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23 .

This won't be Valkyrie's first start either. She was also there for Game 1 of both the National League Division Series and the National League Championship Series.

Valkyrie won't fly around during the anthem, but will instead stay with her handler. But don't worry – she doesn't shy away from a big moment. Valkyrie has been trained to handle loud crowd noises and moving flags to help her stay calm amid the World Series chaos.

Lindsay Focht , raptor program director for the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center, said Valkyrie isn't able to live in the wild. She hatched in the wild, but at 6 months old she was fed by humans. She "made the association that people are great," Focht said, and was eventually scooped up by the nature center.

Focht said this is the second year the bald eagle has been at Brewers' games and it has been wonderful for visibility. There has been an uptick in interest in the program with more people asking to book birds.

The program's goal is to educate people. They might show up in classrooms, libraries or even the World Series. Focht said if there's any takeaway people should have, it should be to learn more and enjoy nature.

"Come to one of our free raptor programs and just enjoy what nature has to offer," she said.
