LEGO Lord of the Rings Minas Tirith Set Is Now Available at Amazon

Heads up, Tolkien fans: the biggest Lord of the Rings set LEGO has ever made is now available at Amazon . Previously a LEGO Store exclusive (where it’s been backordered for months), this massive city-scope build is now available at the internet’s preferred retailer. It still costs $649.99, but it also still comes with 8,278 pieces, making it one of the biggest LEGO sets ever, regardless of category.

It took a long time to piece together, but LEGO expert Kevin Wong built this set for IGN and wrote about the experience , awarding it “our highest recommendation.”

What’s so great about LEGO Minas Tirith, the capital of Gondor? For starters, it’s just straight-up impressive as a physical object. It’s a gorgeous white walled city, intricately detailed, that works as a decoration for whatever room you display it in. It’s big and impressive, despite that it’s made on a scale small enough to depict the entire city all in one set.

While the front of the set is micro-scale, the back of Minas Tirith depicts some of the city’s interiors in minifigure scale. One smaller room contains a Palantir that lets the owner see things happening far away. But the main room is the Hall of Kings, complete with the throne for the King of Gondor.

I know I’ve been tossing around words like “micro” and “mini,” but make no mistake, this is a huge set. Just look at the dimensions of the finished product above – it's roughly two feet tall and two feet wide. It comes in a giant box that contains about 60 bags of LEGO pieces. All told, it has over 8,000 pieces, meaning piecing it together is a marathon, not a sprint. But when you’re done, you’ll have a gorgeous piece of Lord of the Rings you can put on display for the rest of your life (as long as you don’t drop it).
