Hisense U7SE 65-inch smart TV review: A feature-packed Mini LED TV

The Hisense U7SE 65-inch sits in this increasingly competitive segment at Rs 79,990, offering a Hi-QLED Mini LED display, 144Hz refresh rate and features aimed at both movie watchers and gamers. The question, however, is whether all these features translate into a better viewing experience in everyday use. We spent time with the Hisense U7SE to see how it performs with movies, shows, gaming and regular smart TV use, and whether it makes sense at this price.Hisense U7SE smart TV Design and displayThe 65-inch Hisense U7SE comes with a Hi-QLED Mini LED display and a native 144Hz refresh rate. It supports Full Array Local Dimming with up to 608 local dimming zones, along with Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, Quantum Dot Colour and Filmmaker Mode. The TV also has an AI RGB Light Sensor and Hisense’s Hi-View AI Engine for picture processing.We spent most of our viewing time watching Netflix, including Stranger Things, Wednesday and Bridgerton. The large 65-inch screen made the experience more immersive. Dark scenes in Stranger Things and Stranger Things looked particularly good, with the Mini LED backlighting helping separate brighter objects from darker parts of the frame. In Bridgerton, the display handled colourful costumes and bright indoor scenes well, while Wednesday showed the TV's ability to retain detail in darker scenes.The display also worked well in everyday use. We watched YouTube videos, regular TV channels and sports, and the large screen made text, faces and smaller details easy to see from a distance. The AI 4K Upscaler is designed to improve lower-resolution content, while AI Smooth Motion is intended to make movement look smoother.The 144Hz refresh rate becomes more useful when gaming. The U7SE also supports AMD FreeSync Premium and has four HDMI 2.1 ports, giving gamers more flexibility when connecting consoles and other devices.As for the design, Hisense has kept things relatively simple with a Unibody Slim design. The large display remains the main focus, while the slim body helps the TV look less bulky in a living room. Overall, we found the design fairly understated rather than trying to make the TV look flashy.Hisense U7SE smart TV performanceIn daily use, we found the Hisense U7SE responsive and easy to use. The TV runs on VIDAA OS, Hisense’s smart TV platform. The interface is designed around quick access to apps, content and TV settings, and we found it fairly easy to navigate during everyday use. The TV also supports Google Assistant, Alexa Built-in and VIDAA Voice, along with hands-free voice control.We could move between streaming apps, inputs and settings without having to dig through multiple menus. This was useful during regular viewing, especially when switching between Netflix, YouTube and connected devices. The interface feels more focused on getting to content quickly rather than filling the screen with too many options.For connectivity, the TV comes with four HDMI 2.1 ports, which is useful if you have multiple devices such as a gaming console, streaming box and sound system. It also supports Wi-Fi 5. The TV supports AMD FreeSync Premium, while its 144Hz Game Mode Pro is aimed at smoother gaming.We also found the remote control fairly straightforward for everyday use, with the main controls easy to reach. The TV's voice features add another way to search for content and control compatible functions without having to type using the remote.Audio is one area where the U7SE tries to go beyond the usual TV speakers. It comes with a built-in subwoofer tuned by Devialet and supports Dolby Atmos. It also supports WiSA SoundSend for compatible wireless audio setups.In our daily use, the built-in subwoofer made a noticeable difference to the sound compared with the thin audio we often associate with slim TVs. Dialogue in shows remained clear, while background music and action scenes had more depth. For regular Netflix viewing, YouTube and TV channels, we found the built-in speakers capable enough that a soundbar is not immediately necessary.The Dolby Atmos support also helps create a wider sound experience with compatible content, although users looking for cinema-like volume and stronger bass may still prefer a dedicated sound system.VerdictAt Rs 79,990, the 65-inch Hisense U7SE sits in a competitive part of the TV market, but it brings a strong set of features to the table. We liked the Mini LED display, 144Hz refresh rate and local dimming for movies, shows and gaming, while the built-in Devialet-tuned subwoofer gives the TV better sound than we usually expect from a slim television.The VIDAA interface is simple to use, and the four HDMI 2.1 ports make the TV practical for users with multiple devices. However, buyers looking for a more premium smart TV interface or a full home-theatre audio setup may still want to consider alternatives or add a soundbar.Overall, we found the Hisense U7SE 65-inch to be a well-rounded TV for everyday entertainment and gaming.
