Asa Germann Cast as Angel in Marvel's X-Men Movie

Marvel’s X-Men movie has found its Angel in Asa Germann, best known for his roles in Gen V and Scream 7 .

As per The Hollywood Reporter , Germann had actually auditioned for the part of Cyclops, which eventually went to Kit Connor . He wasn’t out of the running, though, and is now playing the X-Men’s iconic Warren Worthington III (better known by his nickname, Angel).

At 28 years old, Germann joins the ranks of a cast that trends younger, alongside 24-year-old Sadie Sink (Jean Gray), 23-year-old Maya Boyd (Storm), and 25-year-old Inde Navarrette, who was confirmed to play Rogue at Disney’s D23 fan convention last month.

Other confirmed cast members include Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier, with Adam Driver set to play the part of villain Mister Sinister.

THR states that, although Germann didn’t nab Cyclops, Marvel Studios was so impressed with his audition that they decided to cast him as Angel. This isn't totally new territory for the actor; he’s quite familiar with superhero universes, having played Sam Riordan in The Boys spin-off show Gen V, a character with superhuman strength, stamina, mobility, and hearing, among other traits.

Angel's superpowers are all avian-related, given his wings and all. The character has been a popular topic on social media as of late, with fans remembering a harrowing scene from 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand where he pulled out his feathers as a child.

First appearing in 1963 comic The X-Men #1, Angel was a founding member of the X-Men and an heir to the wealthy Worthington estate. He operated as a vigilante under the name Avenging Angel before joining the group, eventually getting transformed into the brooding Archangel with metallic wings by the hand of Apocalypse.

Marvel's X-Men cast continues to roll out as the months go by, something that Marvel Studios prez Kevin Feige said would happen at D23. By the looks of things, this cast is here to stay, as Feige teased "sagas upon sagas" of stories about the X-Men that "haven't been told" yet.

"Having 85, almost 90 years of comic book history, there's so many stories yet to tell," Feige said. "We announced a very young, new cast for a property called X-Men the other day. And that's great, because there's been 10 great X-Men movies [but] there can be 100 more, " he said at D23's Disney Worldbuilers panel.
