Festering Secret - Phantom Blade Zero Guide - IGN

Festering Secret is an early-game side quest found in the Weeping Creek Valley area of Phantom Blade Zero . As a Tale quest, it is missable but can be easy to stumble upon due to its proximity to a main hub in the region.

Festering Secret has you explore an area in the Outpost in the Weeping Creek Valley to discover what lurks within. Opposite the Forge, next to the Outpost bell, look to the right to find a chained wall and two soldiers guarding it. They will mutter to themselves and when Soul finishes overhearing the conversation the Tale Festering Secret will begin.

Before you can even complete the first stage of the Tale, you need to earn the Dread Axe Phantom Edge, which is unlocked upon defeating Peng Meng, the Axemaster. He is a main story boss, located just after the Outpost during the Against The Flow quest.

He’s a large opponent with plenty of strong strikes, so prepare yourself. These are the special attacks you need to look out for in this fight:

The Axemaster is a slow-moving boss who hits extremely hard. Oftentimes, it’s safer to dodge than attempt a parry, but you’ll want at least a few successful parries to lower his Sha-Chi meter and cause a guard break.

The Axemaster has slow recovery animations after big hits, so stay patient and counterattack when he’s on the ground or regaining his balance. The Jagged Steel Sword is great here because it inflicts Bleed and the boss is slow enough to give you generous combo openings.

Beating this fight will also unlock your first Phantom Edge, the Dread Axe.

Return to the Outpost and use the Dread Axe on the wall.

Explore the area behind this wall, defeating the two enemies that spawn. The guards will help you out.

Up the stairs on the left, you can find one more enemy which will drop a Sha-Chi Amber Fragment .

Defeating these three enemies in this sealed area will complete this objective as you have seen what is behind the gated off area.

Head back to the entrance of the Outpost, where you first came in and talk to the Swordsman Captain, who is sitting on the rock. He will inform you of the Mandate encampment.

At the end of the conversation, you will obtain the Written Order Wulin Tales Book.

You will now need to progress further into the Weeping Creek Valley.
