Lights Out is one of the game modifiers introduced to Dead by Daylight to shake up how you play. It is an optional game mode, which you can select from the main menu. The current Modifier: Lights Out event in is a Stranger Things Edition. It runs until November 12th, 2026 11am (EST). Survivor: Heal a Total of 5 Health States

Lights Out is a modified game mode where you can expect significantly reduced visibility and thicker fog across maps. There's no Terror Radius for Killers , and no scratch marks for Survivors .

There's also no loadouts . Killer's have Franklin's Demise (one of The Cannibal's perks) , so each time you hit a Survivor, you'll knock an item from their hand. But besides that, there's no perks in play.

Speaking of items, when you play as Survivor, you'll start the game with a Lantern .

When you're holding the Lantern, you'll be able to see the auras of Pallets and Windows (sort of like the Windows of Opportunity perk).

If you use the Lantern, you'll be able to see the Generator closest to you. You can also place a Lantern on top of a Generator , so the aura of it is revealed to other survivors. This also comes in handy if you finish the Generator, because the auras of all other Generators will be blocked from being seen by the Killer.

Other items can be scavenged from around the map, by finding and looting chests. Typically, these will also contain Lanterns, but you can get other items such as Toolboxes.
