The show must go on. DC Studios co-CEO and co-chairman Peter Safran addressed the production stoppage on The Batman: Part II in a new interview with IGN.

Filming of The Batman: Part II had been underway in the UK until it was halted earlier this month so that director Matt Reeves could see to a "family matter."

"Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” Warner Bros. stated at the time. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”

Here’s my exact exchange with Safran from our chat this past Monday.

IGN: I want to be very delicate about how I ask this. Is there any scenario where Batman: Part II doesn't start filming again?

Whether that means filming will resume at some point under Reeves’ direction or if a replacement will take over the directing reins remains to be seen.

Elsewhere in our full interview with him, Safran said of the film, “Batman: Part II, everybody's aware of the issues we're having right now, but, what we've seen so far of the shoot, it looked absolutely fantastic and Matt Reeves is a supremely talented filmmaker.”

A sequel to Reeves’ 2022 film, The Batman: Part II is going in “another totally different direction” than its predecessor, according to star Robert Pattinson.

Speculation about Part II’s plot and characters has been rampant online, with everyone from the Court of Owls to Mister Freeze and Two-Face rumored to factor into its story.

Photos and videos from the Glasgow set were all over social media before production was temporarily shut down, including a closer look at Batman’s updated Arkham-style batsuit and a chase sequence between Batman and the Gotham City Police . The Batmobile itself appears in pretty bad shape after some barrel rolls in some of the set photos.

It’s unclear right now if The Batman Part II’s release date will be pushed again . It’s currently scheduled to open in theaters on February 18, 2028.
