Miami Dolphins Fans On The 2026 Roster Cuts

Following the "final" roster cutdown on Sunday, which, with all the waiver claims, was far from "final," I asked the following question:

Which of the Miami Dolphins' recent roster cuts surprised you the most, and why? Additionally, were any of these unexpected departures particularly disappointing? On the flip side, which players were you relieved to see go, and which players recently released by other teams should the Dolphins consider targeting via a waiver claim?

PlatipusReturns was surprised by how poorly Ewers played this preseason. I honestly think we all were to some degree.

I was surprised by Ewers' poor play. I am surprised we traded for McCord when I always saw him as a college QB propped up by elite wide receivers. I am surprised they went with McCord over Levis.

Bull Pupp seems confused as to the decisions they made at RB.

Interesting considering the RBs they have at this point they kept D.J. Herman (FB). A LB that is working on becoming a blocking FB considering that Wright and Gordon have not been all that impressive and they are injured. Achane has had some injury issues in the past and cannot carry the whole thing by himself.

InHafWeTrust is in favor of the swap of backup QBs we made.

I am most likely in the bottom part of the minority list here – I don't really follow much of the things that go on leading up to the roster cut to 53, unless it's a "big splash" change. I will say the Ewers trade for a 6th rounder in 28 was addition by subtraction when adding Kyle McCord. That dude broke the ACC record for yards in 2024 beating out D. Watson from 2016. I know college doesn't translate to NFL calaber but he is a giant leap from Ewers.

Dolfanjoe knows that this season is about finding talent and getting better. The wins can come later.

Saving two million by cutting Dotson ? Yea we are going to need that money thru out the year ! Poaching costs money ! You have to be able to pay someone you stole off another teams practice squad. One would have to think they may have tried to trade one of our running backs. Guess no one else felt that good about them either ! 7 wide outs ? Naw one of them is getting cut when the waivers go thru ! But our backups do not scare anyone. First string stays healthy we might actually win 4 games. This year is about finding more talent than we have now.

TD looked good Friday as did Burns. I would have liked to see them cut Ollie or Jaylen at RB and keep Jarquez. Glad to see Heck and all of the QBs go. Altmeyer would not be a bad get.

bringbackthewhalers , like most of us, is concerned about the depth, especially at OL.

We should give Evan Neal a look as an IOL. Sounds like he's had a rough start in NY, but wonder if he could be a gem with some new coaching. Don't have a lot of faith in our back-up OL and Achane has some really good games in our 6 OL sets last year.

Gllmiaspr is confused by the team cutting Ewers.

The most puzzling cut was Ewers. I did not watch the practices and am just going by the first pre-season game. In that game he did not play well but the back up offensive lineman were horrible. In my view Ewers last year showed he could become a started and definitely was at the level of a competent backup.

MiamiItaliano was surprised that they cut Major Burns.

Major Burns was most surprising to be cut. I thought they would keep 4 safeties on the roster. But it looks like Kyle Louis will go back and forth between linebacker and strong safety. Relieved to see Cam Miller gone. He should be done in the league. If they don't resign Gronowski to the PS, they should sign Altmeyer.

However, I believe his contract dollars & the emergence of LBer Jacob "the 'stache" Rodriguez ,made him expendable. Additionally, were any of these unexpected departures particularly disappointing? The emergence od Rodriguez makes it easy to see Dotson go. On the flip side, which players were you relieved to see go? Ewers & C. Miller. Which players recently released by other teams should the Dolphins consider targeting via a waiver claim? This I do not know. But I'm feeling the RB is not done getting remodeled.
