Learn more below about how your competitive Overwatch experience has been leveled up in Season 4!
If you missed the OWCS World Finals in Stockholm, here’s a quick recap. Other than wild strategies, world-class players, and passionate fans, we announced FACEIT League’s connection to OWCS ! Now, anyone can start their esports journey in the Open division and work their way to Overwatch’s most prestigious competition!
To help balance the divisions and make sure everyone starts competing at a level appropriate for their skill, there’s multiple free qualifiers at the start of next year so you can fast-track your competitive journey!
$200,000 for tier-2 teams with four seasons in 2025
We also announced a full year of competition for amateur teams competing for a minimum of $50,000 per season outside of OWCS. We guarantee four seasons of competition so teams have a consistent schedule of weekly official matches to look forward to. Instead of waiting months between qualifiers, teams can now work toward OWCS while still improving their skills.
This also includes prizes and competition for South America and Oceania where we hope to build the foundation in 2025 with active teams funding more opportunities for competitive players using the League Pass membership.
With FACEIT League registration closing in January, an incredible 350 teams have already started registering for Season 4 to see if they can climb to OWCS. With that, some teams don’t have a full team of 5 ready, just yet!
Don’t forget that you can use our “find team ” feature to browse teams who want to find players to gain competitive experience with! Join their teams and use the chat to coordinate when to play. You’ll get notifications in our FACEIT mobile app to easily stay on top of these for less time organising and more time practicing.
We are also aligning the FACEIT League roster size with OWCS so teams may have a maximum of 7 players and 1 coach. Keep in mind teams can still add up to 3 players per 7 days before the Roster Lock in case they need an emergency substitute.
Helping fit League officials around your packed schedule
It could be a real struggle to organise League matches around College, work, or other competitions. We’ve focussed on scheduling for Season 4 with multiple improvements to make it easier to find the time to join more competitive matches.
Avoid wasting time going back and forth with your opponents with times they won’t accept as we now highlight when you offer a proposal that was previously rejected. You can now offer multiple times simultaneously so your opponent can choose from several proposals at the same time. For example, if you can play multiple times on the same day or at the same time each night.
You can communicate faster with your opponents rather than writing in chat and hoping they notice the message as we’ve introduced “reasons” for rejecting an offer to communicate a specific response, eg “we can’t do Tuesday”. Finally, if your circumstances change, you can reject your own offer so you don’t need to worry if your opponents will accept the time.
It is now easier to stay on top of your League scheduling when away from your PC with notifications when offers are sent, accepted, or rejected. These notifications are sent using email, the bell at the top of the screen, and now the FACEIT mobile app .
During Season 3, we updated our process for both selecting rosters and how they would be displayed to make them more aligned with Overwatch.
For example, instead of players deciding who “starts”, at the beginning of each match teams will pick who is “red”. Similarly, instead of picking players before the map, at the start of a multiple-game series, teams will now pick their 5 players after the map has been selected. This way they can swap in any substitutes for that specific matchup.
As we continue to expand in Overwatch, more players who are less familiar with esports will be joining the platform. We have updated our season page so it is easier for you to understand how to join and start climbing to OWCS!
Good luck in Season 4 as you climb to OWCS through the skill-balanced division, gaining experience in weekly official matches, that are balanced around your schedule!
