Now, UG students can change major subjects too in second year
DAVV lets UG students in BA, BSc, BCom and other courses change their major subject when entering second year, starting the 2025-26 session.
Indore: Students who realise after their first year of college that they have chosen the wrong major subject will now get a chance to start afresh without changing their degree programme. Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) has allowed undergraduate students to switch their major subject while moving to the second year, starting this academic session. The facility covers BA, BSc, BCom and other undergraduate programmes. Students who completed their first year in the 2025-26 academic session can change their major while taking admission to the second year. The students of this year’s batch will be able to exercise the option next year.Under the revised arrangement, a BSc student pursuing biotechnology can opt for microbiology, botany or another available subject as the major. Similarly, a BA student who chose economics in the first year can switch to history, Hindi, political science or another subject offered by the college.Until now, students could change their minor subjects but were not allowed to switch their major. As a result, those who found the syllabus difficult, lost interest in their chosen subject or performed poorly often had to continue with the same subject throughout their undergraduate course.Examination controller Ashesh Tiwari said the flexibility would help students avoid being stuck with an unsuitable subject. Poor performance in a major can affect overall graduation results and leave students with fewer choices while applying for postgraduate courses. The demand for such flexibility has been significant. Around 500 to 1,000 students have been approaching colleges or DAVV every year seeking permission to change their major subject. The provision follows the implementation of the National Education Policy in 2021, under which the major subject plays a central role in determining a student’s undergraduate degree. The new arrangement gives students an opportunity to make a more suitable academic choice before entering the second year. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Indore | Silver Rate in Indore | Bank Holidays in Indore | Public Holidays in Indore | Petrol Price in Indore | Diesel Price in Indore | CNG Price in Indore | LPG Price in IndoreStay updated with the latest Indore news.
